Lot 95 A GANDHARA HEAD, BUDDHIST SCULPTURE

A large Gandharan stucco head representing a serene Buddhist figure, mounted on a wooden base. The sculpture displays characteristic features of Gandhara art, including softly modeled facial features, almond-shaped eyes, and stylized wavy hair influenced by Greco-Roman artistic traditions.

Such stucco heads once formed part of larger monastery sculptures and architectural decorations in the ancient region of Gandhara (modern Pakistan and Afghanistan), an important center of Buddhist art between the 1st and 5th centuries CE. Height: 57 cm
