Reference: ART3008433

An Ottoman silver incense burner (buhurdanlık) of elegant pedestal form, comprising a globular lower chamber and a domed hinged lid. The body is divided into vertical repoussé panels decorated with scrolling floral and foliate motifs. A gracefully curved S-shaped side handle allows the vessel to be carried while in use. The hinged lid, echoing the segmented design of the body, opens to reveal the interior chamber for burning incense. It is surmounted by a finial in the form of a bird with outstretched wings holding a small red bead, serving as both decorative and functional handle. The burner stands on a tall baluster pedestal foot with a flared circular base, richly chased with floral ornament and bordered by fine engraved bands. 425 gr.
