AN OTTOMAN SILK AND METAL-THREAD HANGING PANEL, 20TH CENTURY

An Ottoman hanging panel embroidered in gilt and silver metal threads on a silk red ground, embellished with three groups of two undulating bands, running from from the beginning to the end of the cloth. The central band with prominent Inscription of ‘Kalimaat Al-Tawhid, There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his Prophet’. Flanked by two narrow bands enclosing Quran 2 surah Al-Baqhara v. 143 and Quran 2 surah Al-Imran surah 96.The expression, ‘Ya Mannan’ (O, the All-Bounteous) inside the upright lantern, flanked by ' Dhu AL-jalala we Al-Ikraam' (the Lord of Glory and Honor) inside the circles. 250 by 110 cm.
