AN OTTOMAN SHERBET SPOON, TURKEY, 18TH CENTURY

A hollow spoon, ivory fitting, the long handle, composed of engraved coral alternating black enameled brass rings, ends with a turned ivory bead. This type of spoon was intended for sherbet, ice-cold fruit granita, much appreciated in the Ottoman court, and which gave its name to the French sorbet. 24 cm. length
