A pair of silver Berber fibulae – Tizerzai–

Teardrop shaped silver fibulae, made of cast and engraved silver and finely decorated, each with a glass stone set in the centre and eight silver chains decorated with red coral and silver coins.

Fibulae were commonly worn by women as an everyday adornment whilst going about daily work as well as on special occasions. It is essentially a cloak fastener, comprising an ornate metal triangular, round or oval shape with detailed etchings in filigree or enamel, and a pin which serves to fasten two layers of material together and were usually worn as a pair. These type of Fibulae are worn by Berbers, the indigenous ethnic group of North Africa.

Condition: some loss to the enamel.
