A QAJAR CARNELIAN MOUNTED SILVER BAZUBAND, PERSIA, 19TH CENTURY

The carnelian of oval form profusely engraved with a central medallion containing an inscription overlaid with smaller inscriptions, the border with further bands of inscriptions, the silver mount with scalloped edge with two hinged loops to each side.
6 by 14.7 cm. max.

Inscriptions: to the centre, an invocation to God as 'O The Preserver!', which is formed with text from the Quran, chapters LXI All-Saff), part of verse 13; XII (Yusuf), part of verse 64 followed by another invocation; to the border: chapters II (Al-Baqarah), verse 255.
